In all relationships, our thoughts and language significantly affect how we feel about our significant other. Forgiveness is both a practice of mind and body, which allows us to create greater harmony in times of friction.
When we look more closely at our sacred relationship, we start to see some breakdowns in intimacy, connection, and communication.
They stem from the places of unresolved past emotions and experiences, showing up in the present as patterns of abuse, withdrawal, co-dependency, addiction in any of its permutations (substance, alcohol, sex, work, money, gambling, virtual reality), or any way we can avoid being in an intimate, authentic engagement.
Tremendous, compacted emotions begin to magnetize further disappointment through expectation.
It’s a cycle of dysfunction that perpetuates until we’re ready to take the next step of change.
This is when we’re called to let go of those patterns, habits, and ways of being that no longer serve. Emotional release is crucial to create the opening for something new. So often that emotional release begins with forgiveness.
Have you ever looked at your past relationships and thought the other person wasn't emotionally available? Yet, you believe you craved this intimacy?
In my past, I blamed my partners for their lack of capacity. But I realized in retrospect that it was my own fear of intimacy. I was emotionally unavailable. I could be open to a point, but when it came to true vulnerability, I held a wall of steel. Even silently backing away.
This is the place where we disengage and disconnect in relationships – remaining physically present and emotionally absent.
The other person may feel disappointed and unfulfilled. Both parties are wondering, where did the passion go? When did we get into these patterns of complacency?
When we begin to focus on stuff like Did you mow the lawn? or Did you take the trash out? We're really missing the richness of what's possible: Living a life that is based on passion, purpose, meaningful connection, and authentic truth.
The way back to the love you truly desire is through forgiveness.
Can you let go?
Can you forgive?
Forgiveness starts with the one in the mirror and it will set you free.
Forgiving all the last aspects of ourselves for what we've been through, how we've acted, and how we've made decisions based on believing that love wouldn't stay, or it wouldn't be full, or wouldn't be safe. Or we weren't worthy of being loved.
I’m certain of this.
We're all deserving of love. Right here. Right now.
We can forgive ourselves for believing anything contrary to this. Forgiveness brings grace.
Bathing in the energy of grace allows us to cultivate relationships from a completely new paradigm, where forgiveness lives as a practice to allow love to flourish.
Grace is palpable.
It fills your soul, your relationship, your home, and those around you.
