Essential Oil Alchemy
The pillar of pure essential oils offers insight and practice for reshaping neural pathways in order to alter limiting beliefs, transform past trauma, and create new harmonious experiences.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the most potent form of plant medicine. They are the volatile, concentrated extracts of plants produced via steam distillation. Biochemically active, essential oils contain sometimes hundreds of chemical constituents that contribute to their aromatic profile, as well as their physiological benefits. For example, one of the main chemical constituents of lavender, linalool, contributes to the nervine nature of this tremendously versatile and calming oil. From an alchemical perspective, aromatics represent the spirit, or the “quintessence” of the plant. Their energetic nature offers us a profound ability to open, access, and actualize our highest nature and potential for a vibrant life rich in all facets of health and harmony.
Essential Oils and Research: Anecdotal or Scientific?
Interestingly, there is far more scientific research than most think. From neural regeneration supporting the blood brain barrier connection to the antioxidant effect of certain essential oils like carrot seed to the effects of essential oils and the nervous system connection, aromatherapy is gaining considerable and concrete traction in the scientific community. Although aromatics have been prized and utilized for centuries for their holistic effects, it was not until the mid 1930’s in Europe and France in particular that the chemical compounds and corresponding physiological effects began to be researched.
